Expressions that were born in ancient times, emphasising
in the Tahuantinsuyo, when festivities took place and when during
battle, the warrior demonstrated strength and courage.
CHOQ'ELAS.- Ritual dance of the aymara
area, of pre Inca origin, that ends with the “chaco” (shear) of
the vicuña. It starts with the call to the “Achacilas” and “Apus”,
begging for an easy and abundant hunt, then the vicuña is trapped
with “llipis” carried by women until the vicuña is killed, showing
the heart as a trophy. Several personages participated in this dance,
accompanied by the drum, “quenacho” and “quena” (wind instruments)
and women sing for the happiness and sadness of the hunted vicuña.
This dance may be seen in Chucuito, Puno and Huancane in August,
September, October and December.
PULI - PULIS.- Lake bird hunter’s dance
in the quechua area, where men and women dressed in multi coloured
clothers, hats adorned with flamenco fethers and “ponchos”, imitate
the majestic flight of the flamencos and other birds of the Charcas
laggon. The music is made with “quenachos” and drums in the communities
of the island of Accopata, in the district of Juliaca, in the month
of September.
