Erotic, ritual and communities dances performed vigorously by the population of town in the area of the Occidental and Oriental mountain rengaes of the Andes. We may mention:

Q'AJJELO.- Erotic dance of the mountain ranges and of the agricultural towns of the provinces of Chucuito and downtown Puno. It is danced in during the religious festivities. In couples, they represent social activities, by the melody of a noisy “charango” (guitar), showing virility and skill; dressed in clothes for the cold flat areas and the agricultural sector. The dances end when the man dominates the woman, as a symbol of love and protest for social justice.

CULLAHUADA.- Dance of the female alpaca and lamb wool spinners of the high flatland if Tiahuanaco origin, that express differents parts of the process of spinning (spin, twist, paint the wool). Has its origin in the legend of Thuno, which recounts that on seeing the loneliness of Wiracocha, extracted mud from the earth and gave form to Cullahua, being that cures man’s misfortunes. This is the dance from Puno that is most colorful and agile because of its rhythm, quickness and movement shown by the dancers. What is most impressive is the “lliclla” (belt) adorned with a border of stars and in the middle there is a Sun, as well as the “pecheras” (breast keepers) and “espaldares” (shoulders) adorned with a big scapulary with silver and gold threads. It could be said that this dance is “ballet” due to the movement, elegance and effective communication it offers. It is dances in all the area, specially during the festivities in February, September and October, following the tunes of a flute, brass drums, drums and a band.
